The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service recorded 142.1mm of rainfall for the month of March 2018 making it the wettest March on record since records began in 1946. March on average is the driest month of the year in Trinidad and Tobago. On March 4th, 2018, Piarco recorded 128.4 mm of rainfall and thundershower activity, across parts of Trinidad. 1972 was the last time thundershowers were reported in March at Piarco.

Floods Cripple Agriculture in Freeport

In Central Trinidad, some residents say it’s the worst flooding they’ve seen in 20 years.

With the recent heavy rainfall and flooding, farmers’ crops and produce were affected greatly. Mr. Aknath Singh, Agronomist (under the direction of Dr. Tewarie, has been dedicated to serving the farmers of Freeport / Caroni Central and by extension, other farmers of Trinidad and Tobago.

Mr. Singh provided technical and agronomic advice to these constituents for restoration of gardens, etc. Some generous farmers of the constituency and agro businesses offered donations of seedlings and chemicals.
